SAFETY BULLETIN! - 10/23/07

There have been three incidents of children being approached by strangers in the neighborhood. In all these incidents, children were approached after getting off the afternoon school bus. For more information, please check the CMHOAVA Yahoo Group email list. We will post the latest news and information there.

Parents, please discuss with your children and remind them on the rules for staying safe around strangers:

  • Never get into a car with someone they do not know, even if the person seems to have a good story. (Like, "Your mom is hurt, come with me and I'll take you to her.")
  • Never talk with someone you do not know when you are alone. Adults have no business talking with children they do not know.
  • If someone makes you uncomfortable, RUN home.
  • You do not have to run on the sidewalk. Take the quickest route home, even if it's through someone else's yard.
  • Tell your parents about the incident immediately!
  • If your parent is not home, feel free to run to a well known neighbor's house.
Review these rules with your child in a safe and comfortable setting.
