Petition for Not
Splitting the Town Up to Attend Two Different High Schools
Dear Scott,
As you are probably
aware, the boundary determination
process for which students will attend Loudoun Valley
High School and
which
will attend HS-3 is currently in process. On March 13, 2007 LCPS staff
will
make a recommendation to the School Board, then the School Board will
review
that recommendation and hold two public input sessions before they, the
School
Board, makes their final decision. The first School Board public
hearing will
be held at Harmony Intermediate, March 29, 2007, at 6:30pm. The second,
and
last one, will be held April 9, 2007, at Loudoun Valley
High School, at
6:30pm.
To date, several of the
boundary options that have been
posted on the school system website www.loudoun.k12.va.us,
under the Planning and Legislative Department, reflect Catoctin Meadows
being
split off and sent to HS-3 rather then Loudoun Valley
High School.
With respect
to our neighborhood, if the students here were sent to HS-3, they would
not be
able to walk or ride a bike to or from their high school if they chose
to or
needed to. Some of the current Loudoun Valley
students in our
neighborhood do just that, and say it really helps if they need to stay
after
school for an extracurricular activity or miss the bus and their parent
can’t drive them to school. Also, being that there are only just over
400
high school students in the Town limits of Purcellville, with Catoctin
Meadows
having about 27 high school students when HS-3 opens, it does not make
sense to
either split the Town or single out Catoctin Meadows.
To that end, as residents
of Catoctin Meadows, please post
the below online petition on our HOA website and/or send a notice out
to our
neighborhood in regards to this request of support to keep our kids at
Loudoun
Valley High School.
